Eastward physical copy12/27/2022 ![]() ![]() Players can experience either board separately or together for an all-encompassing map of the city for an epic Eastward tabletop game night. The board game components from the limited-edition vinyl can be combined with the Eastward Switch Collector’s Edition, serving as an expansion. The vinyl has been made using recycled material and will also offer a first-of-its-kind package, featuring the official Eastward Board Game. In addition, the tabletop game pairs with the limited vinyl featuring the game’s soundtrack by Joel Corelitz with extra notable work on Death Stranding, Halo Infinite, and Gorogoa. Eastward is a beautifully detailed and charming adventure game, from Shanghai-based. ![]() The cooperative tabletop game has 2-4 players working together to rescue villagers and defeat enemies, racing against a sinister miasma that threatens to engulf the world – complete with a foldout game board, 15 food cards, 10 item cards, eight Miasma cards, and four unique playable character standees. Escape the tyrannical clutches of subterranean society and join Eastward’s unlikely duo, Sam and John, on an exciting adventure to the land above Travel across the world by rail to uncover the mystery of Sam’s powers, and the truth behind the deadly miasma. Aside from an exclusive cover sheet by artist Laura Bifano, the main highlight is the inclusion of the official Eastward Board Game from acclaimed designer Erich Meyr (Squanch Games, Insomniac Games) and illustrator Ryan Brinkerhoff. Eastward is set to release in 2020.The Eastward Collector’s Edition will follow later this year. Now I’ve played it for myself, it’s definitely on my to get list. It wasn’t something I was super keen on back when it was announced for Switch. ![]() This game looks gorgeous and seems pretty fun to play. If made with good ingredients like spices you can get timed buffs as well. With which you can cook food at least in the house near the forest. Another thing I found when replaying the demo is you can buy ingredients. I found the plant enemies near immediately repawning (or regrowing) to be a bit annoying so I later ignored them. As one robotic shop keeper has a short fuse then asks them to be mindful that he may be “short” with them. The game has some humorous snippets of dialogue. There’s also a lot of exploring you can do, even in town to find another heart container, and talk to townsfolk. I do really like switching between characters to use their abilities, and what so far is light puzzle solving. Climb aboard and join John and Sam on an exciting journey through a society on the brink of collapse. While I try not to compare games too much but when you have a 2D action game with heart containers and bombs it’s a bit hard. I didn’t realize some things on my first try as the game’s pop-ups don’t tell you everything but you can find out information through the menus. While Sam has a bubble attack that can stop certain enemies to be finished up by John. He also has a gun that uses ammo which was needed for the boss fight. John uses weapons, the frying pan is melee but the charged attack can be used to hit split colour things, which if hit when on a raft will push the raft. So you use their abilities to reach each other and work together. John can’t kill the split colour plants, but Sam can. They interact with certain things differently too. The two characters have different abilities, you can swap between them, and separate them to stand on switches. In this demo after checking out the shops, Sam and John head out to clear some monsters from the sawmill. The visuals make me think of a game boy advance game (with a much better resolution) but the lighting gave it a much softer tone. This is an action adventure game with gorgeous pixel art. I played some of the games that are going to release on the Switch, here is my impression of the Eastward demo. This was a temporary release of early demos for upcoming games that were featured. The Eastward physical edition will be available from May 24, 2022, for US34.99 USD / 29.99, and you can preorder now on. Both the Collector’s Edition and the Vinyl Soundtrack are limited to 3,000 copies each. This year’s Game Awards were last weekend and Steam had a games festival. However, this edition seems like it doesn’t come with the game. ![]()
